Important Facts Regarding Skin Tag Removal
Figuring out how to eliminate skin tags is a question many people ask. These lesions are hanging bits of skin or fat and they are completely harmless, but can be very annoying to some people. They are comprised of fat or derma and are almost always benign or noncancerous. They cannot hurt you but if you are very bothered by their presence there are various ways to get them eliminated.
Tags are caused by many things but mainly friction. Many people get them on their necks from wearing heavy jewelry or from the friction of seat belts. Overweight people and pregnant woman are very susceptible to these bumps but it can also be something you inherit from your genes. Chances are, if your mother had skin tags, you will too.
Going to the dermatologist for elimination is painful and expensive. Insurance policies no longer cover the removal of these bumps because they are not dangerous. The doctor will either burn them off (cauterize) or freeze them away. This method is very costly and painful. Most procedures can remove the growth within minutes. However, larger tags may require more than one visit.
One home remedy is to tie the tag with thread, dental floss or a strand of hair. Tying the tag at the base will cause blood to no longer reach the spot and the tag will eventually dry up and drop off. It is reported that this method is very painful and some people aren’t comfortable with tying the thread.
Clear nail polish is another skin tag home remedy. Just a few brush strokes a day for a few days and the tag will flake off. This method also works with wart remover and other commercial products that cost much more than nail polish.
The preferred method of elimination seems to be a cotton ball soaked in apple vinegar. Affix it to the lesion with a band-aid and leave it on while you sleep. This is the least painful and most natural way for deleting the tags from your neck, legs or other body part.
One final home remedy is cutting the lesion off with a razor, scissors or nail clippers. With this method, you need to be sure and sterilize the razor, scissors, clippers or whatever tool you are using. Before you cut you need to wipe the area with rubbing alcohol, as well as wiping the tool you are using. You will bleed and it will hurt. You should clean the wound with hydrogen peroxide and use some antibacterial ointment for a few days until it completely heals.
Again, you have many options. It’s also important to realize that removing skin tags with a home remedy doesn’t have to be a scary experience if you know what you’re doing. The doctor will charge for cauterizing or freezing the bumps of your body but home remedies can actually be free. Removing skin tags with a home remedy will prevent enormous medical costs and numerous office visits. Whether you decide to tie the bump, brush it with nail polish or soak it in apple vinegar, the removal of the derma lesions is possible without having to make a pricey trip to the doctor.
